Septic Tank
A septic tank is a concrete, fiberglass, or plastic subterranean chamber into which residential wastewater (sewage) flows for basic treatment. Solids and organics are reduced by settle and anaerobic processes, although treatment effectiveness is only moderate.
Types of Septic Tank
Steel septic tanks- A steel septic tank is one of the least common types of septic tank due to its high cost and short lifespan. The primary difficulty with steel septic tanks is that they degrade more rapidly and readily than other types of tanks.
Despite the fact that steel is a naturally tough material, steel septic tanks typically only last 25 years before rusting. As a result, homeowners are less inclined to choose steel septic tanks.
When a steel tank’s roof starts to corrode, the tank may become too weak to sustain the weight of the earth above it. A human or animal may fall into the tank if this occurs.
Concrete septic tanks– These types of septic tanks are built to last a long time. These tanks are not impervious to groundwater infiltration if the concrete fractures. It is possible that blockages in a concrete septic tank might affect the outflow of water.
Fiberglass septic tanks– Fiberglass septic tanks are a durable choice for storing waste and sewage above ground. While steel and plastic tanks are comparable in size and function, fiberglass tanks are more resistant to corrosion, denting, impact, and weathering than steel or plastic tanks.
Fiberglass septic tanks will not crack or corrode like concrete septic tanks. Fiberglass tanks are also much lighter than tanks made of other materials, making them quicker to install but also making them more liable to shifting as the soil around them becomes wet.
Plastic septic tanks- A plastic tank is a long-lasting, lightweight, and reasonably priced option. In comparison to concrete, plastic septic tanks won’t fracture or rust.
It is easy to install because the tanks are relatively low in weight. As a result, they are prone to damage during installation since they are so light in weight. As a result of improper installation, plastic tanks can float to the top and spill their contents on the ground below.
Aerobic septic tanks– These tanks employ oxygen to accelerate wastewater breakdown. Additionally, they required electricity. This type of tank is used to replace septic systems that are malfunctioning.
Aerobic tanks can be up to three times more expensive than other types of septic tanks, but they are more effective and require fewer drain fields, which can be a significant benefit for smaller properties. These tanks require more frequent maintenance, but they will also last a long time.
